"Is he/she happy at school?
Has he/she made new friends?
Can he/she fit in with the new group?
The changes in him/her this year are..."
This is probably the concern of many parents when they send their children to a new school. YCYW, with nearly a century of international education experience, has equipped a comprehensive adaptation plan for new students in the first month of each academic year to solve the pain points of parents. Through different stages and small tasks, the plan helps new students integrate into the class and make friends. In addition, rich and interesting school activities, frequent communication and feedback with parents, and a loving campus atmosphere allow children to gain happiness, friendship, and a sense of achievement while learning knowledge. What is it like to join Yew Wah? How have children changed in this year? We interviewed three families who joined Yew Wah last year. Let's see what they have to say.
Confident expression and outstanding English skills
The mother of Zhixuan, a 3-year-old student, and both Chinese and foreign teachers mentioned that Zhixuan's personality has undergone significant changes. The little girl who only used to hide in the corner and read picture books is now brave enough to express her own ideas and has even made close friends with whom she can talk about anything. During the period when Zhixuan was hesitant to express herself, Chinese and western teachers Ms. Savanna and Ms. Sherry thought of drawing pictures and communicating with her, allowing Zhixuan to draw what she was thinking. Gradually, Zhixuan established confidence in expressing herself. After building trust with her teachers, she became willing to express herself.
And the most outstanding progress Zhixuan has made this year is in English. Western teacher Ms. Savanna mentioned, "This year, our teachers have made a lot of efforts in children's expression. In our emergent curriculum, we learned a lot of English songs with different themes with 4-year-old students, including colors, animals, transportation, family, water, different countries, and learned English words and expressions related to each theme. Zhixuan is a child who is very observant. At first, she did not understand certain English expressions, but we found that she would understand our meaning through our body language, and even many times she acted as a little translator to help other children understand. After this year, she can basically master the English used in daily conversations, which also strengthens her confidence in expression in another way.
Focused learning and enthusiastic organization
Unlike Zhixuan's personality, Scarlett, a G1 student, is an outgoing and cheerful girl. When talking about the changes in her this year, Scarlett's father praised her happily, "She is now capable of taking care of herself, can actively clean up her own room, and can also take care of the small pets at home. Her learning ability has also greatly improved, and she can concentrate on reading."
As for her learning ability, Scarlett's western homeroom teacher, Ms. Katie, shared, "I am particularly happy to see her changes this year. Scarlett was very active and curious when she first came to the class, but it appears difficult to focus on learning. Ms. Song, her Chinese homeroom teacher, and I worked together to customize a personalized learning plan for her. When we found that she was particularly interested in something, we would guide her to a more focused learning and exploration state based on her interests. After this year, we found that her focus has greatly improved. Her enthusiasm has been better expressed, and she has started to establish more meaningful interactions. She also began to be willing to be a leader, actively organizing activities within the class, and supporting her classmates. This year has been a very rewarding year for her."
Publishing a poetry collection and winning a scholarship
G9 Sarah is a shy and introverted girl. If you don't know her, you might even think she's cold. Indeed, Sarah admits that she had a lot of academic pressure at her previous school and found it difficult to truly relax. However, after coming to Yew Wah, she feels much more comfortable and at ease. Yew Wah has a very inclusive environment, where teachers allow children to have their own interests and personalities. When she feels uncomfortable, whether physically or mentally, she can get help and support from her teachers. All of this has made her much more relaxed, and in this kind of atmosphere, she can also have more inspiration and desire to create. This year, her happiest and proudest thing was completing her first poetry collection, "Waiting". Being able to record her thoughts and feelings about the world at this age is a fortunate thing. In the inclusive atmosphere of Yew Wah, she is also working on her second poetry collection. This year, Sarah also won the Yew Wah scholarship. She admits that next year she will start high school, and she will focus more on studying at Yew Wah and strive towards her ideal university.
After one year at YCYW, the new students have "changed". They are more relaxed and confident. They are brave enough to express themselves and are attentive to others. They focus on improving their academic performance, receive scholarships in different fields, and enthusiastically organize class activities.
What changes will they have in the next academic year? How will they write their own stories and enjoy the joy of learning and growth? Let's look forward to it together.
